Chen Lian
Graduated from the Shanghai University College of Fine Arts in 1990.
From 1991 to 1994, participated in the production of the animated series Martinʼs Morning.
In 2006, the representative work Afternoon Nap was selected for the Shanghai Art Biennale.
In 2008, began creating ink figure paintings, completing the series Old Shanghai Street Life over two years. The series explored visual storytelling of everyday life and emotionalmemory, totaling more than sixty works. In 2010, held a solo exhibition titled Nong — Charms of Shanghai Ink Paintings at the Laowaijie Studio and Shanghai Xintiandi No. 1 Club, with several pieces acquired by private collectors.
In 2011, began exploring and developing a distinctive artistic language for ink paintings of women. During this period, created the Peony Pavilion: The Worldly Dream series inspired by Kunqu Opera, as well as the Grace and Elegance series of ink figure paintings. Solo exhibitions were held at Shanghai Xintiandi No. 1 Club in 2013 and 2015, and most works were collected by art collectors both in China and abroad.
In 2019, mentored students whose artwork Dancing for a Better Life won First Prize in the National Primary and Secondary School Painting Competition and was collected by the National Exhibition and Convention Center.
